I love to think outside the box! I am a solution focused & innovative helper focused on personal growth & discovering all the hidden strengths that exist within us. I worked as a clinical therapist licensed in mental health & substance abuse for over 10 years & bring that knowledge & experience into my coaching practice.
My previous work as a therapist: I have a Master's Degree in Social Work. In 2007 I began working in the helping profession as a child protection worker. I was immediately drawn to the hardcore, roll your sleeves up type of work! The kind that makes you feel like you’re really making a difference in the world. The kind that also keeps you awake at night knowing about the evil that lives in the world. I spent the next 10+ years working as a dually clinically licensed (mental health & substance abuse) psychotherapist with High Risk Youth & Adults in areas such as Life Transitions, Trauma, Anxiety & Addiction. I've worked in various settings including in home services for at risk youth, office based, correctional facilities, & substance abuse & mental health programs. I needed to see EVERYTHING my field had to offer me. In 2012 I became an entrepreneur when I opened my own private practice. A place to do things my way & have the creative freedom I longed for. I brought my passion for boxing & fitness into my "tool box" for helping others & obtained some certifications to help me: NASM Certified Personal Trainer NASM Weight Loss Specialist NASM MMA Conditioning Specialist Boxing & Barbells Certified USA Boxing Green Level Certified Coach One of my focuses in my own personal maintenance is lifestyle balance & I bring that into my practice of helping others too. Aligning all aspects of yourself to create a more "whole" you is essential to feeling fulfilled. How I found my true calling: 2015 - I became an adjunct Professor at Monmouth University & obtained additional certification as a clinical supervisor - I supervised social workers & drug and alcohol counselors wishing to obtain clinical licensure through the state. I found yet another passion... teaching & educating "helpers". During this time I learned a really valuable lesson... Self maintenance & self preservation are a MUST for those serving others & for those who are natural "givers." In the altruistic process of taking care of others, we sometimes unknowingly neglect ourselves. I began focusing my work on more than just therapists... first responders, doctors, nurses, mothers & entrepreneurs - who all had one thing in common... CARING & SERVING OTHERS. My Resilience Projects: I am contracted by the Juvenile Justice Commission in the state of NJ to provide Resilience Boxing Workshops to juvenile offenders in secure facilities. I also provide Resilience Building workshops to local first responder agencies including: Child protection workers, therapists, case managers & law enforcement to name a few. My goal is to provide burnout prevention & create healthier workers to serve our communities. micquel bernier
